Released in 2009. This was such a fun album to make. Directly contrasting “Dog and Bird” (which took over 12 months to finish), the “Hill Studio Sessions” EP was recorded very quickly in Nashville alongside some of my favorite players. The album features Rich Brinsfield on bass, Lee Holland on drums and was engineered and co-produced by Brad Hill at his studio on Music Row.
I had been playing a slew of college shows and jazz gigs with the same trio of players for the 3 years prior and was excited about writing some more raw, driving “throw-back” songs that the trio (guitar, bass, drums) could pull off live.
In 2008, upon returning to the US after a 26 country world tour, I was exhausted and escaped to a small house in the mountains of New Mexico. I wrote these songs in the first five days there, sent demos to my players in Nashville, and upon returning to the city, we set to the studio and got to work. The whole thing was super fast. Three 12-14 hour days later, here’s what we did! |
